3 for Driedger as Miners drop North Stars 5-2

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Jamie Driedger scored three times to help the English River Miners defeat the Thunder Bay North Stars 5-2 Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

The two teams traded power play tallies in the opening period with Trevor Pereverzoff getting the Miners on the board at 5:48 before Brendan Gillis deflected a point shot for the North Stars at 11:20.

English River then chased Thunder Bay starter Nathaniel Dupuis early in the second with strikes a minute and a halkf apart from Dreidger and recently acquired defenceman Zac Schlitt.

Driedger then added another for the visitors as he beat new Thunder Bay goalkeeper Jordan Elliot midway through the contest before Troy Sherman struck shorthanded for the home side at 15:19.

It stayed 4-2 Miners until late in the third when Driedger iced it with an empty netter to round out the night’s scoring.

Nash Dabb and Sidney Gladue had two assists each for English River.

Michael Lenko made 36 saves to record the win for the Miners.

Dupuis suffered the loss allowing three against on 17  shots while Elliot gave up one and made 16 stops in relief.
