English River completes weekend sweep in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The English River Miners once again received a stellar performance from goaltender Michal Lenko, who stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced to lead his club to a 3-1 triumph over the Thunder Bay North Stars Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, English River got on the board at 4:35 of the second on an Austin Kuhn effort.

Thunder Bay countered with the equalizer at 13:24 of the frame as Brad Arabia scored on the power play.

It stayed 1-1 until late in regulation when the Miners got the eventual game-winner with 3:08 to go from Kaden Hintz.

The visitors then got some insurance on a Dante Tisi power play marker 46 seconds later to round out the scoring.

While Lenko finished with the 36 saves in earning the victory, Nathaniel Dupuis faced 32 attempts in defeat for the North Stars.
