North Stars Fall 3-2 In Home Opener

After opening the season with three games on the road the Thunder Bay North Stars returned home on Sunday to take on the Minnesota Iron Rangers. Despite leading 2-1, the North Stars fell short losing to Minnesota 3-2.

The Iron Rangers got on the board first, but Thunder Bay would even things at 1-1 before the end of the first period. Avery Siau scored his second of the season while linemate Kenny Turner picked up the lone assist.

Turner would soon score his first goal of the young season on the power play and the North Stars led 2-1 at 3:26 of the second period. Brendan Gillis and Nicholas Nigro assisted on the Turner goal. The teams played evenly throughout the period, but with just :05 remaining Eric Madison scored his first of two goals to tie it 2-2.

Madison scored again just 1:24 into the third and the Iron Rangers defense made it stick, led by goaltender Bryce Kamenick (33 saves). Thunder Bay goalie Riley Corbin played well in net once again stopping 33 of 36 shots in a losing effort.

The North Stars (0-3-1) will have an opportunity to pick up their first victory when the Fort Frances Lakers (3-0-0) come to Fort William Gardens on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
