North Stars hand GM Ice Dogs 1st loss in regulation in nearly 7 weeks

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars got a goal and an assist from Jonathon Masters to help them hand the Dryden GM Ice Dogs their first loss in regulation in nearly seven weeks as they skated to a 3-1 victory Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

After a scoreless opening frame, Masters picked up the lone marker of the middle session as the defenceman notched his third of the season at 9”09.

Thunder Bay went up by a pair just past the three-minute mark of the third on Brad Thrower’s 15th before making it 3-0 when Nicholas Nigro scored on the power play at 5:40.

The GM Ice Dogs did put an end to North Stars’ starter Jordan Elliot’s shutout bid with 3:45 remaining in regulation as Nic Noseworthy scored during a man advantage with assists going to Tristan Knott and Braedyn Aubin.

Elliot made 21 saves to record the win for Thunder Bay while Patrick Zubick faced 41 shots in defeat for league-leading Dryden.
