North Stars’ Jesse Talakoski named 2016-17 SIJHL Scholastic Player of the Year

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars’ forward Jesse Talakoski has been named the SIJHL’s RBC Scholastic Player of the Year for the 2016-17 season.

With the honour the 20-year-old Thunder Bay product earns a $1,000 scholarship on behalf of RBC to help defer costs of his post-secondary education.

Talakoski also becomes the SIJHL’s nominee for the Hockey Canada/Canadian Junior Hockey League RBC Scholastic Player of the Year Award, which will be announced during next month’s RBC Cup in Cobourg, Ont.

That recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship courtesy of RBC.

After graduating as an Honour Roll student from Hammarskjold High School with an impressive 97% average, Talakoski is now enrolled at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay where he is currently majoring in Civil Engineering.

On the ice, in completing his final year of Jr. ‘A’ hockey, he set single-season highs in both assists and points for the North Stars with 20 and 28 respectively.

Upon completion of his program at L.U., Talakoski plans to continue his studies in pursuit of his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
