Aiken posts shutout as Thunder Bay tames Thief River Falls

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Thunder Bay North Stars netminder Brock Aiken turned aside all 28 shots he faced to post his first Superior International Junior Hockey League shutout in a 5-0 victory over the Thief River Falls Norskies Thursday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The North Stars picked up the only tally they would need on this night with Ben Erwin bagging his first of the season nearly seven minutes into the contest.

Action in the middle stanza saw Thunder Bay strike twice to extend their cushion with Keighan Gerrie picking up his SIJHL-best fifth at 6:04 while Alex Erwin added his initial marker at 10:57.

The North Stars then put the game away in the third thanks to a pair of Ryan Mignault goals to finish off the night’s scoring.

Gerrie also added two assists for the visitors as did teammate Joel Willan helping Thunder Bay improve to 2-0-1.

Fletcher Bolda faced 36 shots in defeat for the Norskies who slipped to 1-1.
