THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Jordan Baranesky’s second goal of the game, coming late in overtime was the decider as the visiting Red Lake Miners pulled out a 4-3 decision over the Thunder Bay North Stars Saturday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at the Fort William Gardens.
Each side would score once in the first frame with Jacob Brown bagging his 20th tally of the campaign for the North Stars only to see Carson Lux counter for the Miners.
Thunder Bay regained the lead 11:37 into the second stanza when Nikolas Campbell connected on the power play.
Answering back once more, Red Lake drew level with 36 seconds left in the period as Baranesky struck shorthanded to knot the affair at 2-2.
In the third, it was the visitors turn to go in front when William Walsh picked up his first SIJHL goal at 2:23 to give the guests the lead.
Alex Erwin did collect his ninth of the year with just over nine minutes remaining in regulation to help force extra time.
In the OT, Baranesky finished off the road win at 4:12 after finishing off a Ryan Howe feed.
Miners’ netminder Zach Willms made 44 saves to record the victory while Jordan Smith faced 33 attempts in defeat for the North Stars, who did pick up a point in defeat.
