THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Cody Bruchkowski has been named its Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 23.
Last week saw the 20-year-old from Cochenour, Ont., collect five tallies to become just the fifth player in SIJHL history to surpass the 50-goal plateau in a single season.
Bruchkowski also dished out three assists for Thunder Bay to extend his league-leading point total to 86 in just 45 contests.
Currently riding an impressive 18-game point streak, his scoring touch sees him pacing all SIJHL skaters in tallies (53); power play markers (16) and game-winning goals (10).
Add in the five times he scored earlier in the campaign with the Brockville Braves (CCHL) before joining the North Stars, Bruchkowski’s 58 total goals are the most of any player in the entire Canadian Junior Hockey League so far in 2019-20.
The other former SIJHLers with 50 or more goals in a single season are Kory McEwan, North Stars (69); Bryce Young, Miners (60); Chris Bryson, Diesels (56) and Braeden Allkins, GM Ice Dogs (53).
Also earning consideration for player of the week honours were Isaac Baron, (F) Thief River Falls Norskies; Dean Buchholz, (G) Fort Frances Lakers; Ethan Stuckless, (F) Red Lake Miners; Darren Shykes, (D) Wisconsin Lumberjacks and Knute Loe, (G) Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
