North Stars take 2nd straight against Norskies

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Thunder Bay North Stars stormed back from a one-goal deficit in the third period and struck for four unanswered tallies in pulling out a 5-2 triumph over the Thief River Falls Norskies Friday night in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

After Thunder Bay blanked Thief River Falls on Thursday, the Norskies got the jump in this one as Brett Piper picked up his second of the season 5:47 into the contest.

The North Stars drew level two and a half minutes later though with Ryan Mignault notching his fifth early in the campaign to knot the affair at 1-1.

Thief River Falls countered once more though before the frame was complete when Alec Severson supplied his first at 13:49 to put them up 2-1 after 20 minutes.

After a scoreless middle session, Thunder Bay was all business in the third to secure the road decision.

Robert Tyska tied it on the power play at 4:15 of the stanza while teammate Kyle Auger also connected on the man advantage a couple shifts later in what proved to be the game-winner.

The North Stars kept coming and added later offensive efforts from Brendan Gillis and Keighan Gerrie to complete the comeback.

Dougie Newhouse made 31 stops to record the win for Thunder Bay while Bailey Schmitz faced 36 shots in defeat for Thief River Falls.
