North Stars thump Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Thunder Bay North Stars scored six times in each of the night’s first two periods as they went on to dismantle the Minnesota Iron Rangers 14-1 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

The North Stars came out flying netting a pair of opening frame markers from Alex Erwin while Kyle Auger, Evan Nicholas, Ben Erwin and Jonathan Kilby supplied singles.

In the middle stanza, the Irwin twins both tallied again as did Kilby, Brendan Gillis, Ryan Mignault and Jacob Antonnen.

Joshua Baker managed to get one for Minnesota in the session.

Gillis on the power play and Ben Erwin once more at even strength rounded out the night’s scoring in the final frame.

In all, 10 different Thunder Bay skaters had multi-point evenings in the triumph.

Dougie Newhouse made 20 saves in the North Stars net to pick up the win while both Synjen Amende and Nick Corneliusen saw time between the pipes for the Iron Rangers in defeat.
