North Stars wax Iron Rangers

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading Thunder Bay North Stars fired a 75-shot barrage on the Minnesota Iron Rangers net and went on to a convincing 7-0 win Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens.

Thunder Bay pumped 27 of those attempts on Minnesota netminder Nick Corneliusen in the first period alone, but would only score once on an Evan Nicholas marker at 7:52.

The North Stars fired another 27 drives at Corneliusen in the middle session and tacked on three more tallies in the frame as Kyle Auger tallied twice while Keighan Gerrie added a single.

Thunder Bay finished off the one-sided result with three more goals in the third as Joel Willan, Gerrie and Brendan Gillis all found the back of the net.

Auger also had two assists in the triumph and in the process extended a consecutive game point streak to 10 along the way.

Ryan Mignault also chipped in offensively with a trio of helpers.

Dougie Newhouse only had to make 14 saves to post his SIJHL-leading second shutout of the season.
