THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars became the third Superior International Junior Hockey League club in history to reach the 100-point plateau in a season after defeating the Minnesota Iron Rangers 14-0 Saturday at the Fort William Gardens.
Joel Willan, Jacob Brown and Keighan Gerrie each had six-point nights in the lopsided decision.
Kyle Auger registered a hat trick, while Brown, Gerrie and Ryan Mignault all tallied twice with Jonathan Kilby, Jacob Anttonen, Michael Stubbs and Josh Bryant supplying singles.
Thunder Bay netminder Brock Aiken posted his league-leading eighth shutout of the season.
Synjen Amende and Nick Corneliusen both saw time between the pipes in defeat for Minnesota.
The victory gave the North Stars 100 points to wrap-up the campaign joining both the 2005-06 Fort William North Stars and 2012-13 Minnesota Wilderness as the only teams in the tenure of the SIJHL to reach the century mark in a single campaign.
The 2005-06 North Stars squad accomplished the feat in just 52 games and still hold the league record for best winning percentage at .962 while going 50-2 overall.
In 56 outings, the Wilderness went 51-3-0-2 for a win mark of .898 while Thunder Bay went 49-5-1-1 in 2018-19 to give them a winning percentage of .893.
