THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS THANK HEAD COACH ROB DEGAGNE FOR SEVEN REMARKABLE SEASONS
THUNDER BAY, ON — The Thunder Bay North Stars would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Head Coach Rob DeGagne for his unwavering commitment, leadership, and passion over the past seven seasons behind the bench.
Since taking over the reins as head coach, Rob has been a cornerstone of our organization. Over the course of 420 games coached, he amassed an impressive record of 265-121-20. His coaching excellence was formally recognized when he was named Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 season.
Under his leadership, the North Stars captured back-to-back regular season titles in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons and earned a coveted berth to the Dudley Hewitt Cup in 2019, showcasing the team on a regional stage.
Beyond the statistics and accolades, Rob’s impact is best measured by the growth and development of the many young athletes he has mentored. His guidance has been instrumental in the advancement of numerous players not only on a personal level but also to the Major Junior, U-SPORTS, and NCAA Levels, leaving a legacy of excellence that will resonate for years to come.
“Rob has been more than just a coach—he’s been a leader, a mentor, and a role model,” said Kris Kellaway (Co-Owner and General Manager). “We are deeply grateful for the countless hours he has dedicated to the team and the community. His contributions have no doubt shaped the North Stars organization both on and off the ice.”
As an organization, we cannot thank Rob DeGagne enough for his dedication to the Thunder Bay North Stars as Head Coach and are very excited that he has decided to remain on board with our organization as a Senior Hockey Advisor.

A New Chapter
After seven unforgettable years, I’ve made the difficult decision to step down as Head Coach of
the Thunder Bay North Stars. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Kellaway family for entrusting me with this
incredible opportunity. Their unwavering support allowed me to coach with authenticity and
conviction, and to build a program that prioritized character, commitment, and competitiveness. I
will always be thankful for their belief in me and the freedom they gave me to shape this team.
To the coaching staff—thank you for being such dedicated and passionate partners in this
journey. Your knowledge, work ethic, and unwavering belief in our players elevated this team
and pushed me to be better every day. You’ve made an indelible mark not only on this
organization, but on me personally.
To the players—past and present—it’s been an absolute honour to be your coach. You’ve
inspired me with your effort, resilience, and love for the game. I hope our time together taught
you more than systems and structure—I hope it gave you memories, lessons, and friendships
that will last far beyond the rink.
To our fans—thank you for being the heartbeat of the North Stars. Your passion and loyalty
have been a constant source of pride and motivation for our team. You’ve made Fort William
Gardens a true fortress, and a place where junior hockey thrives because of your energy and
spirit.
To my family—thank you for your endless support, understanding, and love. Coaching at this
level is a commitment that impacts everyone around you, and I couldn’t have done it without
your sacrifice and encouragement.
While I’m stepping away from the bench, I’m not stepping away from the North Stars. I’ll be
staying on as a Senior Hockey Advisor and will continue to support this organization in any way
I can as we pursue another SIJHL championship for Thunder Bay.
Thank you, sincerely, for an amazing seven years.
With gratitude,
Rob DeGagne
