Thunder Bay tames Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Michael Stubbs scored once early and another late, while his Thunder Bay North Stars team mates added eight in between, as they went on to tame the Minnesota North Stars 10-1 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play vs. the Minnesota Iron Rangers Wednesday at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Stubbs, Ben Erwin, and Evan Nicholas put the visitors in front by three in the first period before Erik Engdahl stuffed in his fourth goal of the season for Minnesota at 15:11 with assists going to Matt Turnbull and Brendan Burns.

The North Stars got that back on the next shift though on Joel Willan’s 21st.

It was more Thunder Bay in the second stanza as they tacked on four more to break it open as Ryan Mignault tallied twice while Keighan Gerrie and Jacob Antonnen added singles.

Kyle Auger went top shelf in the third to extend the North Stars cushion before Stubbs rounded out the scoring in the late going with his second of the night and 23rd overall.

Auger also had three assists in the Thunder Bay triumph while Gerrie, Matthew Halushak and Brendan Gillis chipped in with a couple of helpers each.

Dougie Newhouse was the winning goaltender for the North Stars with Nick Corneliusen and Synjen Amende both seeing time in net in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
