Allkins’ tallies twice as GM Ice Dogs defeat North Stars 6-4

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs picked up a pair of goals from Brayden Allkins to help lead them to a 6-4 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars Sunday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Memorial Arena.

Dryden got things going offensively by striking 23 seconds apart to go up by a pair early on efforts from Jacen Bracko and Garrett Giertuga.

A two-man advantage allowed Thunder Bay to get on board as Brad Arabia connected on the power play at 18:37.

The GM Ice Dogs came right back however and while still down a skater, scored shorthanded with 39 seconds left in the first compliments of Allkins’ SIJHL-leading 47th goal of the season.

The visitors pulled to within one thanks to an extra man marker Ryan Walsh 1:10 into the middle session, only to see Allkins collect his league-best 48th with a man advantage effort of his own at 9:53.

Walsh then added his second of the day 46 seconds later as he struck shorthanded.

Action in the back and forth affair continued with Dryden’s Garrett Graham and Thunder Bay’s Brett Wolframe trading power play tallies before the session was complete.

It stayed 5-4 for the hosts until the late going when Bracko secured the win for the GM Ice Dogs with an empty netter with 20 seconds to go.

Braedyn Aubin dished out three assists to aid Dryden’s offensive cause with Wolframe and Brad Thrower chipping in with a pair of helpers apiece for the North Stars.

Ben Dennis made 25 saves to record the victory for the GM Ice Dogs while Jordan Elliot faced 36 shots in defeat for Thunder Bay.
