Big crowd witnesses Norskies knock off North Stars

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – In front of arguably one of the largest single-game crowds in Superior International Junior Hockey League history, the Thief River Falls Norskies rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars Saturday with 3,011 spectators in attendance at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Michael Johnson put the home side in front 8:11 into the contest as he converted during a Norskies’ man advantage opportunity.

Thunder Bay got that back before the first period was complete thanks to a Nicholas Nigro power play goal.

Thief River Falls tallied twice in a 42-second span in the middle stanza to go up 3-1 with Reily McIntosh scoring at even strength and Keaton Huot while his team was up a man.

Action in the third saw the Norskies put the game away on efforts supplied by Tommy Stang, Parker Simonson and another by Johnson to round things out.

Stang, McIntosh and Dylan Dix dished out two assists apiece in the triumph.

Thief River Falls outshot the North Stars 42-18 with Ryan Buttazzoni picking up the win and Jordan Elliot the loss.
