3-point night for Mignault as Thunder Bay tops Dryden

DRYDEN, Ont. – Ryan Mignault tallied twice, including notching his 30th goal of the season, and added an assist as the Thunder Bay North Stars powered their way past the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 4-1 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Friday evening at Memorial Arena.

In a match-up between the two long-time SIJHL rivals, the opening 20 minutes was scoreless as netminders Dougie Newhouse of Thunder Bay and Dryden’s Jordan Wilde handled every shot they faced.

Moving on to the middle session, Miganult put the North Stars in front at 1:45 to give the visitors the lead.

Battling back, the GM Ice Dogs drew level thanks to a power play marker off the stick of Ryan Brandt, who picked up his third goal of the season, which came at 11:01.

Thunder Bay regained the lead before the stanza was complete though as Mignault notched the eventual game-winner as he buried his career-best 30th of the campaign to put the visitors back up by one.

In the third, the North Stars capped off the road win with a pair of tallies in the back half of the session thanks to Michael Stubbs and Brendan Gillis.

Gillis added two assists to join Mignault with three-point nights.

Newhouse finished with 23 saves to record the win for Thunder Bay while Wilde faced 30 shots in a losing cause for Dryden.
