North Stars’ Gerrie named SIJHL’s CCM Hockey Rookie of the Year

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Friday that Keighan Gerrie of the Thunder Bay North Stars has been named its CCM Hockey Rookie of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

Gerrie edged out fellow CCM Hockey Rookie of the Year finalists Evan Walls of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Jacob Siebenga of the English River Miners in voting for the honour, which was completed by each of the SIJHL’s member clubs.

As the youngest player in the league this season, the 16-year-old Thunder Bay native played at nearly a point-per-game pace by registering 51 in 53 contests on 24 goals and 27 assists.

His tally total also tied him for first among first-year skaters with Walls while he was second in points, finishing one behind Siebenga.

Gerrie becomes the sixth North Stars player to capture this award joining forward Bradley Belisle (2014-15); goaltender Jay Pelletier (2008-09); forward Kale Kerbashian (2006-07); forward Dustin Fummerton (2005-06) and defenceman Andrew Fernandez (2004-05).
