Dryden stops Thunder Bay in OT

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A Braeden Allkins goal 1:20 into overtime was the difference as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs skated to a 3-2 triumph over the rival Thunder Bay North Stars Friday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League  match-up at the Fort William Gardens.

Following a pre-game Remembrance Day ceremony that saw veteran Roy Lamore, who also spent many years officiating in Thunder Bay, dropping the puck in the ceremonial face-off, it was Dryden that got on the board first as Eric Stout notched his league-leading 21st tally of the campaign at 6:10.

The North Stars countered with a power play marker six minutes later on Nicholas Nigro’s 15th of the campaign.

Hayden Johnston would put the home side in front midway through the second period, only to see Allkins tie it at 15:04 for his first of the night.

After a scoreless third, Allkins then won it for the GM Ice Dogs in OT with the clubs playing three skaters aside.

Patrick Zubick made 25 saves to register the victory for Dryden.

Nathaniel Dupuis faced 20 attempts in defeat for Thunder Bay who saw a four-game win streak come to an end.

The same two teams meet again Saturday back at the Gardens at 7:30 p.m.
