North Stars rally to edge GM Ice Dogs in OT

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Nicholas Nigro’s 16th goal of the season, coming 2:19 into overtime, was the difference as the Thunder Bay North Stars rallied to defeat the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 3-2 Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

Dryden got off to a great start grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Braedyn Aubin and Garrett Graham.

The score stayed that way until late in the second stanza when the North Stars got on the board, via the power play, thanks to Jake Robinson.

Thunder Bay then forced extra time early in the third when Brendan Gillis notched the equalizer at 3:34.

In OT, Nigro won it the home side with the clubs skating three aside to end it.

Shots on net favoured the North Stars by a 45-37 count with Jordan Elliott picking up the win while Patrick Zubick helped Dryden earn a point in a losing cause a night after the GM Ice Dogs were victorious over Thunder Bay in OT.
